"Dementia in the Elderly: Therapeutic Approach and Drug Delivery System" Implementation of International Cooperation in the Framework of the 4th Anniversary

Dementia is generally defined as intellectual decline due to decreased function of the outer part of the brain tissue. Apart from that, dementia is a decline in intellectual quality accompanied by impaired observation, resulting in decreased memory which greatly interferes with the ability to solve problems faced in daily life, communication and language skills, as well as controlling emotions. Dementia (senile disorder), is caused by damage to brain cells that function cognitively and mentally. 50 – 60% of the causes of dementia are Alzheimer's disease.

Therefore, proper treatment is needed for Dementia sufferers. Medical treatment for dementia is palliative and supportive. Management of dementia can be done with several interventions. Based on research conducted by Chertkow, et all, (2008) it is said that the management of elderly people with dementia can be carried out using non-pharmacological and pharmacological methods. Medication, or pharmacological therapy is given to help treat anxiety, depression, aggressive behavior, and paranoid behavior, as well as to replace neurochemicals in the brain.
