The Rector of ITD Adisutjipto, Air Vice-Marshal Asst. Prof. Dr. Ir. Arwin Datumaya Wahyudi Sumari, S.T., M.T., IPU, ASEAN Eng., ACPE, APEC Eng., participated in the "Protecting Innovation Breakthroughs: Safeguarding Advanced Research" workshop organized by the US Department of State, US Civilian Research and Development Foundation (CRDF) Global, and BluePathLabs on June 19-20, 2024, in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia. The workshop was attended by representatives from three ASEAN countries: Indonesia, the Philippines, and Malaysia. Rector Arwin was accompanied by Dr. (Cand.) Rully Medianto, S.T., M.T., a lecturer from the Aeronautical Engineering Study Program who is currently pursuing his Doctorate at the Bandung Institute of Technology.
This professional workshop provided participants with insights into the importance of protecting innovations developed by researchers at their respective institutions, with a focus on Dual-Use Items (DUI), especially those categorized as Controlled Items and Intangible Technology Transfer (ITT). DUI refers to the UN Security Council Resolution 1540, which aims to prevent the misuse of goods and technologies for purposes that could endanger national security. The workshop concluded with the awarding of certificates of completion and accolades to all participants. The speakers came from the National University of Singapore (NUS), Universiti Malaya, Multimedia University (MMU), and BluePathLabs from the United States.
During the event, Rector Arwin engaged with representatives from several universities in Malaysia and the Philippines to explore opportunities for collaboration in relevant fields such as joint research, visiting professorships, student exchanges, and joint community service projects. Several universities, including Universiti Malaya, Multimedia University (MMU), Universiti Teknologi PETRONAS (UTP), Universiti Malaysia Sarawak (UNIMAS), and Western Philippines University (WPU), have warmly welcomed these initiatives.
