Rector of ITD Adisutjipto Officially Names Husein Sastranegara Hall: Commemorating the History and Dedication of a National Hero

On Monday, January 8, 2024, the Rector of the Adisutjipto Institute of Aerospace Technology (ITD Adisutjipto), First Marshal TNI Dr. Ir. Arwin Datumaya Wahyudi Sumari, S.T., M.T., IPU, ASEAN Eng., ACPE, APEC Eng., officially established the presence of Husein Sastranegara Hall, previously known as Adisutjipto Hall. This hall stands as a witness to the commemoration of the history and dedication of an Indonesian national hero, Husein Sastranegara, who fell on September 26, 1946. As a patriot, Husein Sastranegara began his struggle at the onset of Indonesia's independence on August 17, 1945.

Born on January 20, 1919, Husein Sastranegara's journey led him to join the People's Security Agency (BKR) in Bogor, then the Cavalry Regiment in Bandung, until finally arriving at the Andir Airfield in Bandung, which was besieged by the Japanese army. After moving to Yogyakarta, Husein Sastranegara joined the People's Security Army (TKR) aviation division, and after graduating from aviation school, he was appointed as an inspector cum operations officer, successfully repairing Japanese legacy aircraft.

The climax of Husein Sastranegara's struggle occurred on September 26, 1946, when he was entrusted with a test flight using the newly repaired Cukiu aircraft. Unfortunately, the accident resulted in the loss of lives for Husein Sastranegara and technician Rukidi in the Gowongan area of Yogyakarta. The official naming of Husein Sastranegara Hall stems from this background, with the hope that it will not only pay homage to the hero but also inherit his spirit of perseverance, making this hall an inspirational place for the entire academic community of ITD Adisutjipto.
